Mayor Drew Boyles picture

Drew Boyles is a dedicated public servant and proven leader who served as Mayor of El Segundo from 2018 to 2024. His journey in public service began as Chairman of the El Segundo Economic Development Advisory Council (2014–2016). Elected to the El Segundo City Council in 2016, he was immediately appointed Mayor Pro Tem and became Mayor in 2018.

During his tenure, Drew prioritized introducing performance-based strategies and private-sector efficiencies into government operations. He spearheaded initiatives driving economic development, fostering nimble communication, and ensuring responsible fiscal management, all while preserving El Segundo’s small-town charm and enhancing the quality of life for residents and businesses.  

Drew has contributed to numerous intracity and intercity councils and committees, including:  

  • South Bay Cities Council of Government: Chairperson and Board Member  
  • Southern California Association of Governments: Regional Council Member; Transportation, Emerging Technologies, and Community Development Committee Member  
  • LA County Beach & Harbor Commission: Member  
  • League of California Cities: Governance and Employee Relations Committee Member  
  • California Coastal Groups: Leadership Committee Member  
  • LAX Airport Advisory Council: Member  
  • LA County Sanitation Districts 1 & 5: Director 
  • El Segundo Subcommittees: City/School Affairs, CALPERS Pension, Environmental, Park Vista Council, and Technology Liaison  

In addition to his public service, Drew is a seasoned entrepreneur and CEO, leading businesses across multiple states with several hundred employees.

By the age of 21, while fully enlisted in the U.S. Navy, Drew earned his Bachelor’s Degree. Following his military service, he rose rapidly through leadership roles at Brunswick Corporation and Starbucks Coffee, all while single-handedly raising his two sons. He later earned an MBA in Finance from USC and worked as a Big 5 Management Consultant, honing his skills in strategy and operations.

As an entrepreneur, Drew has owned and operated more than three dozen 1-800-GOT-JUNK? franchises, in five states. He is also the founder of HazAwayToday.com, a pioneering service for residential and commercial hazardous waste removal. Drew is now building a large-scale, surfing-centric real estate development featuring a wave pool, housing, hotel and other commercial real estate.

Drew’s leadership extends beyond business. He has held prominent roles in the Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO), including serving as President of the Los Angeles Chapter and U.S. West Regional Director. He is a Board Member of The World Is Just a Book Away, an organization that builds libraries for impoverished children in Mexico and Indonesia. Drew also served as Co-Chairperson of the Surfrider Foundation Malibu/Santa Monica chapter, championing environmental causes. 

Drew’s personal passions include spending time with his wife, Lee, and their five children, surfing, skiing, and snowboarding with vigor and frequency. A committed adventurer, Drew aspires to surf in every country in the world—even those without coastlines—and has already surfed in 25 countries as of 2024.
